The estranged father of Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle is facing a criminal probe into allegations that he was in possession of hundreds or thousands of images depicting child sexual abuse.

After the shocking claims became public this week, Markle said she had been made aware of the allegations by her brother years ago.

According to the BBC:

In a statement, Meghan said a letter containing allegations against Thomas Markle was sent to the Metropolitan Police that year and subsequently shared with her.

Her comments come after reports that images of child sexual abuse allegedly belonging to her father had been found at his former home in the Philippines.

Thomas Markle, who is 82 and based in the US, denies possessing any such images.

Commenting after the allegations, first reported by The Sun newspaper, the duchess said: “I am deeply distressed at the news that has come to light in the last 24 hours, and my thoughts are with any children who may have been harmed.”

The news sparked significant social media chatter:

She never reported it to the correct authorities. If the allegations are true, she could be viewed as being an accessory to crimes against children. She did nothing.

Probably the reason why Meg doesn’t want him near her and he couldn’t attend the wedding too.

The Daily Caller added these details:

“In 2018, a letter was sent to the Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection. That letter was subsequently shared with me.” Markle continued, “It made troubling and disturbing allegations against my father and I was given assurances that these were being investigated.”

Markle asserted, “I hope it can now be understood that, despite certain media publications’ distortion over the years, any distance from my father and my choice to not allow him to have contact with our children, was for one reason: to protect them.”
