Rep. David Valadao (R-CA) lost his re-election bid in California’s 22nd Congressional District to Democrat Randy Villegas.
With 57 percent of the votes tallied, Villegas led Valadao 66.41 percent to 33.59 percent.
Valadao’s defeat comes after redistricting made his district more favorable for Democrats.
Valadao’s election loss also makes him the last House Republican who voted to impeach President Trump after January 6, 2021, to lose re-election or retire.
CBS News shared further:
Other House Republicans who voted for Trump’s impeachment, such as former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), were defeated by pro-Trump challengers.
According to the Washington Examiner, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee listed Valadao as one of the most vulnerable Republican incumbents this election cycle.
