FBI Director Kash Patel ripped a major media network Wednesday for falsely reporting that he was in Russia.
Earlier in the day, MS Now claimed Patel had arrived in Russia for a two-day visit in Moscow and St. Petersburg, citing two unnamed sources. The network alleged Patel was in Russia for events hosted by the FSB, Moscow’s intelligence agency.
The FBI swiftly pushed back, ripping MS Now as an outlet that “constantly tells lies” and publishing live footage showing Patel in Virginia for an event at Liberty University. The agency also pointed to a social media post by Rep. John McGuire (R-VA) that highlighted Patel’s visit to the Liberty University School of Law in Lynchburg.
“MS NOW just reported I had ‘landed in Russia’ for meetings with the FSB,” Patel wrote in a post to X. “The same outlet constantly tells lies about this FBI and law enforcement’s historic achievements in safeguarding the American people.”
FBI spokesman Ben Williamson also weighed in.
“I have had many strange experiences in life, but in tier 1 had to be seeing a clip of MS Now reporting breaking news that Kash Patel has ‘just landed in Russia’ – right as I’m receiving pics of Kash Patel doing a law enforcement appreciation event today in Lynchburg, Virginia,” he wrote in a post.
“Also, reporter friends, it’s not ‘FBI *says* Kash Patel is in Lynchburg VA,’” Williamson added. “He is literally there. There are time stamped photos and live streams showing it. Rep. John McGuire has tweeted it. He’s a ‘source familiar’ if you will.”
The saga comes after MS Now reporter Ken Dilanian said on air that Patel was in Russia on Wednesday.
“We don’t know what Kash Patel is doing in Russia,” Dilanian said. “And that’s one of the things that’s concerning our FBI sources — they don’t know either.”

The FBI’s rapid response page slammed the report, reposting to X footage from ABC News’s affiliate in Virginia showing Patel at the Lynchburg event on Wednesday.
“MS Now’s ‘sources’ are ‘familiar’ with NOTHING!” the agency proclaimed.
