Karoline Leavitt has traded the White House briefing room for a very different kind of project.
The former press secretary revealed that she and her husband, real estate developer Nicholas Riccio, are renovating their Florida home.
Leavitt teased the project on Instagram over the weekend and asked followers whether they wanted to follow the renovation as it unfolds.
It is a glimpse of the family-centered chapter she said she wanted when she stepped away from one of the most demanding jobs in Washington.
A recent photo captured Leavitt with her children in Florida as the renovation got underway:
Trending Politics reports that Leavitt described the property as the family’s Florida place and said they expect to spend only a few months there each year.
She also told followers that she bought a less expensive double stroller for the Florida home because it will not be the family’s full-time residence.
Leavitt and Riccio primarily live in New Hampshire. The couple met there in 2022 while Leavitt was running for Congress, and Riccio has built his career in real estate.
The renovation is a natural fit for the family, but it also carries a little political symbolism. Florida is President Trump’s home state, and Leavitt remains firmly inside the MAGA movement even after leaving the West Wing.
President Trump announced her departure in August and said she was leaving so she could devote more time to her young children while continuing to serve as an outside adviser.
The announcement made clear that the change was about family, not a political break:

NewsNation reported that Leavitt’s decision followed the birth of her second child in May. She said her children were at a critical stage when they needed their mother home more often.
Her daughter arrived while Leavitt was serving in one of the most punishing communications jobs in American politics. She returned to the podium, but the demands of the role made it increasingly difficult to be as present as she wanted for both children.
On her final day, Leavitt described nearly 20 months in the Trump administration as the honor and blessing of her life. She also called the decision bittersweet because she loved the job and the president she represented.
Leavitt was the youngest person ever to serve as White House press secretary. Her combative briefings and quick answers made her one of the administration’s most recognizable defenders.
The move did not end her work for the president. It changed the shape of that work and gave her more room for family life without cutting her loose from the movement she helped represent.
Leavitt confirmed that she would return to MAGA Inc., the Trump-aligned super PAC where she worked before joining the administration:

Fox News confirmed that Leavitt would rejoin the Trump-aligned super PAC after leaving the White House. She had previously served as the group’s national press secretary before becoming a leading voice for President Trump’s 2024 campaign and administration.
That arrangement keeps one of President Trump’s most effective communicators in the fight ahead of the midterms without forcing her back into the relentless daily pace of the White House podium.
For now, though, Leavitt is letting supporters see another side of life after Washington: two small children, time in Florida and a home renovation that may become its own public series.
After nearly two years of battling the press corps on behalf of President Trump, choosing paint, flooring and fixtures probably looks almost relaxing.
