Members of the U.S. delegation walked out of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s U.N. address Wednesday, a day after President Donald Trump announced three hours of negotiations with Tehran.
Pezeshkian used his appearance before the General Assembly to challenge Trump’s accusations against Iran.
“The U.S. president described us as terrorists: We have been the victims of terrorism,” he claimed.
Boos could be heard as his appearance was announced, according to accounts of the speech. Members of the American delegation later rose and left as Pezeshkian insisted Iran had “only defended ourselves.”

The confrontation followed a round of diplomacy Tuesday involving Trump’s envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, on the sidelines of the annual gathering in New York.
Trump described the discussions as a “very good meeting.” Witkoff said intermediaries carried messages between the American and Iranian delegations during the negotiations. Another session was being planned, though officials offered few details about what the talks had accomplished.
Earlier Tuesday, Trump had pressed Iran to reach an agreement while warning that he could drive the country “into hell.”
He also accused Tehran of dragging out negotiations until the November midterm elections and restricting traffic through the Strait of Hormuz to turn anger over disrupted oil supplies and higher prices against him. Those were Trump’s allegations about Iran’s motives.
Reopening the vital shipping route remained a central issue. Iranian officials said the New York discussions were intended to convey Tehran’s demands, with Qatar helping arrange the talks.
Neither side publicly announced a final agreement to restore shipping through the strait.
