Whoops. What may have been an honest mistake has turned into a waste of Republican-promoting money, as Defending Main Street, a GOP super PAC, spent thousands of dollars on ads in Portland, Oregon, when the location should have been Portland, Maine.

The ads were meant to boost the reelection campaign of Maine U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, who is facing Democrat Troy Jackson in the Nov. 3 general election.

The two Portlands, of course, are thousands of miles apart, and even the staunchest Republicans in Oregon’s largest city, few may they be, aren’t able (legally) to vote for Collins next month.

The ad showing up online in Portland, Oregon, hits Troy Jackson on the issue of taxes and cost of living.

“Maine can’t afford Troy Jackson and all his taxes,” the ad said.

Defending Main Street bills itself as the “most effective independent expenditure organization supporting the governing wing of the Republican Party.”

Reportedly, the ad ran over 1 million times between Oct. 8 and Oct. 11.

Andy O’Brien is a political operative in Maine. He told The Intercept:

“We have billionaires with no connection to Maine spending millions of dollars to buy Susan Collins the election, so it’s pretty hilarious to see them throwing money at the wrong Portland It’s clear these people don’t know anything about Maine, because they’re directing their ads to the wrong Portland.”

O’Brien continued, “I’m glad they’re wasting their money in Oregon and not continuing to waste it in Maine.”

Social media users in Portland, Oregon, have confirmed seeing the anti-Jackson ad.
