Ever since President Trump began to vigorously enforce immigration law, as the executive branch is tasked to do, his detractors have pushed back, quickly developing the slogan: “Abolish ICE” – the agency that has tracked down, arrested and deported criminal aliens across the nation.
Now an Illinois congresswoman is catching flack for calling for the end of the parent agency of ICE, the Department of Homeland Security. Commenters on social media are noting that Democrat Rep. Delia Ramirez not only made her demand while speaking Spanish, but vowed to end DHS so that “our people” will no longer “have to live in fear.” “Our people” presumably meaning immigrants who have violated the law, either in entering the U.S. or since that time.

Commented one X user: “Just my opinion. If you are more proud of another country than you are being an American you should really consider going to the country you are more proud of. I may get disappointed in my country from time to time, but I have never not been proud to be an American.”
Others also questioned Ramirez’s loyalty, the daughter of immigrants:
“This is a prime example why anchor babies like Delia Ramirez should be excluded from being able to serve in U.S. Congress or at any level of government. Her allegiance is not to USA citizens and this country, but she is proud to be Guatemalan. She admits her mom crossed illegally.”
“Eileen” on X simply asked, “Why are people who do not have loyalty to the U.S. and its sovereignty allowed to serve in Congress?”
Ramirez, a Chicago lawmaker, plans to introduce a bill that would dismantle the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement, redirecting their funding to more social services. This mirrors “progressive” politicians in large cities who have advocated defunding police and instead hiring more social service workers.
The bill “would create a new human- and community-centered federal department,” Ramirez explained, and would promote “collective safety.”
