Indiana Democratic county council candidate Jaime West is making headlines for her interview performance, slouching, slurring her words, and making a sound that viewers believe to be a fart.

In the interview, which was posted on Oct. 9, the Fayette County Council candidate admitted she did not prepare an opening statement to let voters know more about her. “I didn’t write one, so I’m just going to not read it, just say it out loud like from my heart,” she said while laughing and staring into the camera.

Notably, West spent most of the interview staring into the camera rather than looking at the interviewer, Managing Editor of the Connersville News Examiner Amy McCarty.

West got emotional while talking about potentially losing a fire station in the community due to Republican tax cuts. “I might need to get a Kleenex out, man. It makes me sad what the Republicans in the state House have done,” she said, her voice audibly breaking.

West also did not seem in control of her bodily functions, as she was seen burping and even appearing to fart while McCarty was asking her a question about local income taxes.

At one point, West asked McCarty to repeat a question after West tried to repeat it herself and seemed confused. McCarty repeated it, asking West what decision she would make in office that may be unpopular with voters, but is “in the best interest of the county.”

West rocked in her seat and stuck out her jaw as she thought. She abruptly turned and looked at the camera, wide-eyed, and delivered her answer: “Firing all Republicans,” she said, throwing her hands in the air. “I don’t even talk to them, I don’t like them.”

She went on to say there are Republicans who “actually get it” and then “There’s these MAGAs who are just racist and aren’t very intelligent at all,” referring to members of President Donald Trump’s Make America Great Again coalition. She went on to claim that an unnamed “sheriff’s nephew threatened to blow my head off.”

West, however, did offer closing thoughts for voters: “We have guns, too,” she said without hesitation, staring into the camera.

“All right, well, as a reminder, the general election is Nov. 3,” McCarty said before West could finish.

The televised forum was sponsored by the Connersville News Examiner and local broadcast outlet TV3.
