Here’s Why The White House Is Convinced Canada Will ‘Come To The Table’ Amid Trade Dispute

Although the United States’ northern neighbor is talking a big talk in response to President Donald Trump’s tariff announcements, the Trump administration remains confident in its position.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy recently elaborated on that confidence, as The Hill reported:

“To think that they’re going to go to war with Donald Trump and actually win that war with the U.S., I think it’s foolish on their part,” Duffy said of Canada on “Fox News Sunday.” “And again, I think what the president is trying to do with [U.S. Trade Representative] Jamieson Greer, who, by the way, has done an amazing job representing the president and America, is we want fairness for the American worker. And some of our best friends are the worst offenders that treat us the worst.”

“And the fact that we provide their security for them and they take advantage of us, I think President Trump was the first one to go, ‘You know what? That’s not the kind of relationship that friends should have,’” he added.

Duffy also said that he believed that Carney would join discussions quickly because the potential tariffs will be “devastating for his country.”

His reassurances sparked some social media reaction:

If Trump really wanted to call a bluff, he should offer all Natural-Born Canadian Citizens immediate US citizenship if they want to move to the USA.

In all fairness Biden/Harris did take them to court but Canadians are so pumped up on their egos that they still did not comply hence why Trump has to just stop the chaos and stop engaging at all. Stop their damn TN visas also. Canada uses immigration and proximity to the USA.

WION added these details:

The Trump administration issued a sharp warning to Canada on Sunday (Aug 23), describing Ottawa’s decision to retaliate in an escalating trade dispute as “foolish” and predicting “devastating” consequences for its northern neighbour. The tensions follow the collapse of high-stakes trade negotiations late Friday. The breakdown immediately triggered new 50% US tariffs on roughly $20 billion worth of Canadian imports, hitting approximately 5.5% of Canada’s total exports to the United States.
