War Secretary Pete Hegseth said his department has moved away from “woke” ideologies during his “State of the Force” address Wednesday, directing comments toward “fake news” media.
The Trump administration has sought to put an end to “woke ideologies” in President Donald Trump’s second term. Several of those actions have included restructuring the armed forces and revoking diversity, equity, and inclusion policies. Hegseth claimed success in the Department of War’s efforts during his appearance at the Marine Corps Base in Quantico, Virginia.
“We are no longer the woke department or the weak department,” Hegseth said during his address. “Simple translation of that: no fatties, no t*******, no beardos, no weirdos. No wimps, no radicals, just warriors.”
Under Hegseth’s leadership, the military has sought to bar transgender individuals from serving in the military. Although a federal appeals court ruled in June against the ban, the scope only protected current transgender service members who were part of the lawsuit. The ban is in effect for transgender people seeking to join the military.

Hegseth announced the “Joint Warfighter Evaluation” on Sept. 22, aimed at securing merit-based promotions to ensure applying commanders aren’t ranking up solely for maintaining good relationships with their superiors. Hegseth said the “ideological clowns were out” and promoted unity over diversity.
“The War Department, as you know, is colorblind, gender neutral, and merit based,” Hegseth said in his address.
