I am the WORST Texas alumnus, ever. My support for the athletic programs has fallen off as I now live far away, but more because I no longer recognize the place (and more often than not, they fail to show up in key matches). John Cornyn brought the issue front and center on X, though, and got bitchslapped in response (read the comments). Whites are now less than 20% of admissions there. The school has a recruiting office in INDIA. This isn’t about “white supremacy”, but rather meritocracy. Like most government educational institutions, it remains a hotbed of DEI.
Commentary by a friend from Florida….
“State colleges should not be open to foreign nationals as in-state residents.H1B are guest workers. They need to formally made ineligible for any state benefits like homestead exemptions, in state tuition, in state admission priority, and home financing (witness the housing price deflation and mortgage abandonment problem currently in the DFW area).
I have begun openly advocating in Florida that it be codified into state law that only US citizens & green card holders permanently admitted to the US are eligible for state residency & state benefits like homestead exemptions, home financing (regulated by state statutes), in state tuition & in state admission preferences. They are foreign nationals in the US on a temporary guest worker status, & their dependent children’s eligibility for benefits flows from their legal status. They are guests, & foreign nationals, not residents.”
A diverse student body is a good thing, but its demographic should not wildly misrepresent the state’s demographic at the expense of qualified state residents.
Read the commentary on Cornyn’s post and note the race of the first one
