Google made a surprising update to its map.

As WLT Report previously covered, President Trump in an Executive Order renamed Lake Ontario to Lake America.

Although the name change received backlash among liberals and some Republicans who have publicly shared they will not call the lake by its new name Google did the opposite.

Take a look:

The New York Times provided further details on Google’s move:

Google has updated its Maps application, labeling Lake Ontario as Lake America for users in the United States, following an executive order signed by President Trump last week amid an escalating trade war with Canada.

The decision of the tech giant reflects what it did when Mr. Trump renamed the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America last year.

The change has started to be rolled out, Google said in a blog post, adding that it was following its practice of using the name given by the U.S. Geographic Names Information System.

“People using Maps in the U.S. will see ‘Lake America,’ those in Canada will continue to see ‘Lake Ontario,’ and those outside of the U.S. and Canada will see both names,” Google said in its statement.

Mr. Trump’s decision to rename the lake on Thursday was met with derision and shrugs in Canada and across the United States, and sparked a series of online memes and late-night jokes.

The Hill reported Ontario Premier Doug Ford is not happy about Trump’s move:

Ontario Premier Doug Ford on Sunday said that President Trump’s executive order renaming Lake Ontario to “Lake America” resembled “something out of ‘Saturday Night Live.’”

Ford slammed Trump’s trade war with Canada that placed a 50 percent tariff on $20 billion worth of Canadian goods in an interview with ABC News’s “This Week” host Martha Raddatz.

“I just don’t see the purpose. It’s absolutely backwards,” he said. “It was like something out of ‘Saturday Night Live’ when he signed a document saying ‘change to Lake America.’ No one’s going to call it Lake America. It’s been Lake Ontario for hundreds of years. It’s going to continue to be Lake Ontario.”

Ford called the tariffs and renaming “so, so disappointing, because I love the U.S. I love the American people. Canadians love the American people.”

“We differentiate between a great American people and the president,” he added
