Five men are in custody after armed police intercepted three suspicious vehicles that appeared to be heading toward RAF Fairford, the British air base used by the United States for strategic bomber operations.
Britain’s Counter Terrorism Policing said the incident began around 12:45 a.m. Sunday, when police received a report about the vehicles traveling toward the Gloucestershire installation. Armed officers stopped the vehicles in the nearby Whelford area and arrested five men on suspicion of offenses under the Explosives Act.
The men were later arrested on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act.
