Former Fox Sports and ESPN broadcaster Julie Stewart-Binks has revealed that a cancer diagnosis was behind her sudden two-week absence from television.
The 39-year-old sports personality shared the health update with fans on X, explaining that she recently underwent surgery after doctors discovered squamous cell carcinoma on her nose.
“Personal note: I haven’t been on TV or working the past two weeks because I had Moh’s surgery to remove squamous cell carcinoma from my nose,” her post began.
Stewart-Binks said the warning sign initially looked harmless.
“I thought it was a pimple that wouldn’t go away, turns out it was cancer.
“I share this so that hopefully it inspires others to get checked is something feels/looks off.”
She later returned with a more encouraging update, telling followers that the procedure successfully removed the cancerous cells.
“The cool part about this,” she began. “Is not only did they remove all the cancerous cells, but they grafted part of my ear onto my nose.
“I’ve played hockey my entire life, but never felt more like a hockey player than I do now. Sew me up and put me in coach.”
The Canadian broadcaster has spent years working across major sports networks, including Fox Sports and ESPN.
Her resume includes coverage of hockey, soccer and other major events, with stops involving the Toronto Maple Leafs, Anaheim Ducks and the NHL Playoffs for TNT Sports.
During her time at ESPN, Stewart-Binks also covered Major League Soccer and the U.S. national teams.
Her unexpected absence had left viewers wondering why she had not appeared on television in recent weeks.
That mystery was cleared up with her candid post, which quickly prompted an outpouring of support from fans.
“Glad you caught it when you did!! wishing you a smooth recovery,” one wrote.
“Wishing you a fast and full recovery,” a second commented.
“Praying for you. Take care,” another added.
Stewart-Binks’ update also carried a broader warning for viewers not to ignore unusual skin changes, even when they appear minor.
For now, she appears focused on recovery after surgery and has not announced a specific date for her return to television.
