Long have there been cases of vote fraud, that is, people who are not U.S. citizens voting in elections. Some states automatically sign illegal aliens up for elections as they get driving permits, Colorado is known for sending huge batches of letters to illegal aliens encouraging them to register and vote.
In spite of crackdowns, the problem remains, especially in that often votes cast by those who are not eligible are counted before any enforcement action is even contemplated.
President Donald Trump’s Department of Justice has a solution.
It has now sent officials in California letters insisting those running the state’s elections “verify” the status of those suspected of not being citizens BEFORE counting their ballots.
And they have given state officials 48 hours to set up that very security plan.
A report From RedState confirmed Acting Deputy Attorney General Trent McCotter has written to California Secretary of State Shirley Weber and Los Angeles County election chief Dean Logan.
Those letters allow officials that 48 hours to set up a plan to verify the status of suspected ballots.
DOJ supplied the officials a password-protected thumb drive identifying people it believes are likely noncitizens ‘who were sent a vote-by-mail ballot from California to participate in the November 2026 federal election,'” the report said.
“This effort about suspected noncitizens the DOJ claims have been sent a vote-by-mail ballot for this upcoming election so that election fraud can be prevented. That’s especially important this year since California Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed ‘election interference’ laws attempting to prevent federal investigators from looking into election fraud after the fact,” the report said.
The instructions include segregating returned ballots and not county them, and to withhold ballots that weren’t mailed, if they are linked to individuals whose citizenship cannot be verified.
The report confirmed California has been on notice about the problem for months.
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin first contacted Weber on July 16 about suspected noncitizens on the state’s voter rolls.
Weber then complained about the federal government’s data sources and methodology and demanded to know how the agents obtained California’s registration list.
RedState noted, “And we already know California’s registration system has been exploited. … Former Lodi Councilman Shakir Khan pleaded no contest to 14 election fraud felonies related to the 2020 general election. Investigators found that he registered noncitizens living overseas, including his brother in Pakistan. San Joaquin County’s sheriff confirmed that a Pakistani citizen living in Pakistan voted in California’s 2020 election.”
