Washington Examiner columnist Joe Concha said Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) would likely “not win in swing states” if she ran for president in 2028.

“She wouldn’t win in the swing states just as Kamala Harris did not,” Concha said Thursday on Mornings With Fox Business. “So, yes, she could win in the primaries, but in a general election, I don’t see her winning in those states, and those states are the only ones that matter.”

The New York representative has been a big name in the Democratic Socialists of America as socialists establish a political foothold in positions across the country. However, Ocasio-Cortez’s left-wing policies on the oil industry will hurt her presidential ambitions in states such as Pennsylvania, Concha said.

“For example, she’s against fracking, she’s against all offshore drilling,” Concha said. “Fracking in Pennsylvania creates hundreds of thousands of jobs — you eliminate that, those people, those unions, will absolutely not vote for her.”

In Arizona, a state President Donald Trump won by nearly 6 points in 2024, Concha said voters will likely take issue with her pro-immigration policies.

“But Arizona is where she’d really have some problems because she’s obviously for having all illegals in this country to become naturalized citizens,” Concha said.

However, if she gets to a general election … the problem is that, in swing states, her policy positions do not jibe with winning those states.”
