Sen. Jim Justice (R-WV) said the Trump administration should reconsider its approach on immigration enforcement, saying ICE sweeps are disrupting communities.
“Before you know it, you get people that get carried away in their job and whatever it may be, and all of a sudden, then you’re dragging people away that have lived on your street corner for 15 years, and I don’t know that we need to be doing that stuff,” Justice told
POLITICO.
“To get better, the first thing you got to do is admit you’re doing something wrong,” Justice continued.
“And in this situation, with all that’s going on and all the stuff, we probably got to step back from it and say, ‘Maybe we’re doing something wrong here or there,’ and then adjust to that,” he added.

The comments from Justice, a Trump ally who serves on the Senate Agriculture Committee, came after ranching groups complained that Immigration and Customs Enforcement actions in Texas, Kansas and Oklahoma are costing cattlemen millions of dollars and choking supply chains. His statement is the latest and most forceful from a Republican expressing displeasure with how ICE’s operations are being conducted.
Meanwhile, the first-term senator said earlier this month that he’s considering another run for West Virginia governor.

The Hill explained further:
During an appearance on MetroNews’s “Talkline” radio show, Justice said he was “100 percent” considering a primary challenge to incumbent West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey (R) — who succeeded the first-term senator last year.
“I’m not going to tease around with people, that’s awful to do,” Justice added. “That’s not my style. We’ll make a decision and make it quickly.”
Politico first reported Thursday on Justice’s consideration of a primary challenge to Morrisey.
The 75-year-old West Virginia senator served two terms as governor from 2017 to 2025. The Republican convert defeated Democrat Glenn Elliott by more than 40 points to secure his Senate seat in 2024, eight years after Justice won his first governor’s race as a Democrat.
Justice announced he was switching parties at a rally alongside President Trump, after he did not publicly back 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
If Justice, a businessman worth hundreds of millions, were to seek a third term as governor, it would pit him against his successor in Morrisey.
Justice did not back Morrisey in the 2024 GOP gubernatorial primary, instead endorsing Moore Capito — now the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia and the son of West Virginia Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R).
